Tehran Municipality Sold “a Company Building and Land for 1,600 Billion Tomans” to Pay Employee Salaries

A member of Tehran City Council said on Sunday, July 3rd that Tehran Municipality sold “a company building and land worth 1,600 billion tomans” to pay employees’ salaries for the month of June.
Habib Kashani, during the seventy-fifth session of the city council, following a report by Alireza Zekani, Tehran’s mayor, predicted that with the current approach, “in the coming months we will surely sell Shahr-e Aftab and Shahrvand building and even Hamshahri institution.”
Citing Tehran Municipality’s report on a “six trillion tomans” revenue deficit in the first two months of the current year, he warned that if revenue is not obtained during this critical period, implementation of the municipality’s plans and projects will be impossible.
Naser Amani, another member of Tehran City Council, after hearing Alireza Zekani’s report, criticized the “large volume and diversity” of the presented programs and said that “we expected him to present a performance report, not programs, and this made us think we are in a mayoral election session.”
Alireza Zekani has been subject to constant criticism from media outlets and opponents since his controversial election as Tehran’s mayor due to his poor performance.
