Sepideh Qolian Transferred to Evin Prison to Serve 5-Year Sentence

Sepideh Qolian’s lawyer, a civil activist, announced the transfer of his client to Evin Prison to serve her conviction sentence.
Jamal Haidari Manesh, the lawyer of Sepideh Qolian, a civil activist in Iran, announced on Sunday in an Instagram story that Sepideh Qolian was transferred to Evin Prison on Sunday, June 22 (the first day of Tir month) to serve a five-year sentence.
Previously, Ms. Qolian had posted a video on her Twitter page stating that she had made a commitment to report to prison after visiting the enforcement office of Evin District Court and refusing to sign a request for amnesty to Khamenei.
Qolian posted a video saying that judicial authorities had asked her to write a letter requesting amnesty from Khamenei, but after her refusal, she was told “without notice” that she would be transferred to prison. However, ultimately a commitment was taken from her to report herself to prison on Sunday.
Sepideh Qolian, who was initially arrested during the Haft Tappeh workers’ protests, was later released but was subsequently arrested again following her disclosure of forced confessions and torture, along with Ismail Bakhshi. After some time, on November 25 (the 4th of Aban month) along with several labor activists in Iran, she was temporarily released on a bail of 500 million tomans. She was again arrested on the night of Saturday, November 16 (the 25th of Aban month) during people’s protests at her father’s house and, after several days, was finally temporarily released on December 3 (the 12th of Azar month) with a bail of 200 million tomans.
This civil activist was convicted on charges of “assembly and conspiracy with intent to act against national security for seven years imprisonment, membership in the Gam group for seven years imprisonment, propaganda activities against the system for one year and six months imprisonment, and spreading lies for two years and six months imprisonment.” According to her lawyer, she was transferred to prison to serve a five-year sentence.
She had previously also mentioned on Twitter her personal experience regarding televised confessions during her arrest, writing that one of the IRIB journalists named “Ameneh Saadat Zabih Pour” had prepared a text beforehand during the production phase of the television program “Tarahi Sokhteh” (Burnt Design) in the interrogation room for Sepideh Qolian to read as a televised confession in front of the camera.
The U.S. State Department has repeatedly and in various instances condemned violent actions and widespread suppression of protesters, as well as repeated and continuous violations of Iranian citizens’ rights by the regime governing that country.
