Guardian: US Pre-purchased Entire Stock of Potential Coronavirus Drug

The drug in question is “Remdesivir.” A medication that is effective in reducing complications caused by the coronavirus in infected patients. The Guardian has reported that the US has pre-purchased nearly all of Gilead’s production for the summer months of this year.

While the World Health Organization and António Guterres, the UN Secretary-General, speak of the spread of SARS-CoV-2 as an international challenge, the US has adopted a national approach to COVID-19 disease. A matter clearly demonstrated by the report published by the London edition of The Guardian newspaper.

No effective drug has yet been found to prevent and treat COVID-19 disease. Nevertheless, tests show that the drug “Remdesivir” can reduce complications from infection with the new coronavirus and shorten the disease period from 15 days to 11 days.

Remdesivir is a product of American company Gilead. A drug that was originally produced to treat Ebola disease. It was later revealed that this drug also has a positive effect on other types of viral diseases.

The Guardian reported that the Trump administration has purchased nearly all of Gilead’s production for the coming months. This purchase includes all of July’s production and 90 percent of the production for both August and September. As a result, this drug will be practically unavailable on the market for other countries until September.

Alarming Statistics

Despite efforts made by the US government, the number of new cases of the new coronavirus in that country is sharply increasing.

Anthony Fauci, Trump’s advisor and one of the members of the COVID-19 response task force at the White House, has spoken of the possibility of 100,000 people per day becoming infected with this virus in America. The number of people infected with coronavirus in the US has now reached more than 2.6 million.

Fauci stated in his remarks before Senate representatives: “I am very concerned and I cannot express satisfaction with what has been done so far. We have taken the wrong path.”

Trump’s advisor on combating the new coronavirus said that in the current situation, it does not appear in any way that everything is under control. This is while Trump has repeatedly claimed in recent weeks that everything is under the government’s control.

Fauci said that if new cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection rise from the current 40,000 to 100,000 per day, he would not be surprised. He called for a review of the government’s policy and approach to fighting coronavirus in America.

So far, more than 126,000 American citizens have died from COVID-19 disease.
