Members of Local Street Music Group Arrested in Ilam

Members of a local street music group were arrested following a statement by the “Command for Promotion of Virtue” headquarters in Ilam province.

Mehr News Agency reported on Tuesday, July 7, that the group was arrested for failing to comply with “cultural and health requirements.”

On Monday, a short video was circulated on social media showing a young woman dancing in the street alongside a local music group performing the drums on Saadi Street in Ilam.

Following the release of this video, the “Command for Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice” issued a statement condemning what it called “norm-breaking and anti-cultural actions.”

The headquarters called for “decisive action against those responsible, behind-the-scenes operatives, and those showing disrespect to religious sanctities.”

Afshar Khosrouzadeh, the prosecutor of Ilam, also confirmed the arrest of members of this street music group, claiming that these individuals “were present in the street without observing cultural and health requirements” and were therefore arrested and handed over to the judicial authorities.

Cracking down on street music groups in Iran, particularly when there is a female singer, has become a routine matter.
