Over 600 Attacks on Asylum Seekers Recorded in Germany Within Six Months

From insults to hate speech, from arson to assault and battery; manifestations of xenophobia in Germany. Various actions driven by a single motive; foreign hostility. Within the first six months of the current year, 609 cases of attacks on asylum seekers in Germany have been recorded.
Statistics on attacks by extremist forces against asylum seekers in Germany were released by the German government at the request of the Left Party faction. Statistics that were reported by the newspaper “Neue Osnabrücker.”
According to these statistics, Germany witnessed 609 cases of attacks on asylum seekers in the first half of the current year. These cases are limited to attacks that occurred with “political motives.”
According to these statistics, in the first half of the current year approximately 60 cases of attacks on asylum seeker residences were recorded. In addition, 42 cases of attacks on relief organizations or volunteer relief workers were reported.
It is reported that during these attacks 102 people were injured, of which seven were children.
Brandenburg, Center of Xenophobic Attacks
Statistics provided by the German government to the Left Party faction in Germany indicate that one quarter of all attacks occurred in the state of Brandenburg, Germany.
German police in this state reported 160 cases of attacks on residences and asylum seekers. In other German states, the number of attacks on asylum seekers has been lower than this state.
For example, the number of attacks on asylum seekers in the state of Baden-Württemberg was reported as 62 cases, in the state of Lower Saxony 58 cases, and in Saxony 56 cases.
Ulla Jelpke, domestic policy spokesperson for the Left Party faction in the German Parliament (Bundestag), in an interview with the newspaper “Neue Osnabrücker” criticized the living conditions of asylum seekers in Germany and said that the security of asylum seekers in Germany is exposed to danger on a daily basis.
She emphasized that it is the responsibility of the German government to protect asylum seekers. The German Interior Ministry in a statement released in this regard, announced: “All German citizens and politicians are responsible for taking a stance against silence and indifference in the face of such attacks against minorities in this society and rising up to confront them.”
