A Parliament Member: Inflation Rate of Some Essential Goods Exceeds 400 Percent

A member of the Islamic Consultative Assembly says that contrary to government announcements, subsidies have not been paid to the 9th decile, and currently there is 400 percent inflation in some sectors of essential goods.
Moein-al-Din Saidi confirmed on Tuesday, May 17, that people have faced “problems” due to non-payment of subsidies and hopes this does not happen during the implementation of the “electronic commodity coupon” plan.
According to him, there is no “cohesion” in the government’s economic team, and contrary to statements by government officials, “the impact of rising prices of essential goods on inflation will be far more significant” and will raise inflation by 10 percent higher. The newspaper “Kayhan” also criticized the government of Ebrahim Raisi in today’s issue for the fact that a significant portion of the people did not receive subsidies, writing that this government has a “deficiency in economic information oversight” and “the country’s economic management is faltering”.
The elimination of preferential exchange rates, which led to astounding price increases in at least five essential goods, was accompanied by protest reactions from residents in 10 provinces of Iran.
Protests against the implementation of this contractionary policy were primarily due to higher general price increases than government estimates, and secondly due to non-deposit of subsidies to the accounts of a significant portion of households eligible to receive subsidies.
In the past week, many reports have been published about the non-deposit of new subsidies into the accounts of some households. The government of Ebrahim Raisi says that protesters can register and follow up their protests through a website.
Meanwhile, price increases have caused protest gatherings in the streets, to which security and police forces responded by firing and throwing tear gas at the protesters. Reports indicate that at least five people have died in the new wave of crackdowns on protests.
