Discovery of Land Embezzlement Covering ‘85,000 Square Meters’ in Tehran’s Vanak Lands

Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence announced on Monday the discovery of a major land embezzlement case in Tehran’s Vanak lands through the release of a report.

The report states that this incident is one of the largest land embezzlement cases in the country.

According to the report, the mentioned lands, covering approximately 85,000 square meters, which are located in the West Park area of Tehran and encompass part of Iran Zamin Park and Hemmat Highway, are estimated to have a value exceeding 50 trillion rials.

The Ministry of Intelligence states that in this case, some officials are also under investigation.

Over the past few years, Iranian authorities have announced the arrest of dozens of people on charges of land embezzlement.

Fars News Agency reported on Sunday this week that “approximately 385,000 hectares of land embezzlement was recorded in Iran in 2016.”

The report adds: “These are only the discovered cases; there are also instances that the judiciary has been unable to identify. The monetary value of these in 2016, accounting for inflation that year, was 97 trillion tomans. This figure was one-fourth of the country’s budget in 2016 and currently equals the annual wages of five million workers.”
