Eight-Year Prison Sentence of Sina Omran, December 2017 Protest Detainee, Confirmed

The eight-year prison sentence of Sina Omran, a Tehran University student and one of those detained during the December 2017 protests, has been confirmed.
Aarash Dolatshahi, Sina Omran’s lawyer, told Ensaaf News that the eight-year imprisonment sentence for the Tehran University student has been “exactly” confirmed by the appeals court.
According to Dolatshahi, the Ministry of Science and Tehran University have had “collaborations” regarding Sina Omran’s case, and it is planned that a request for retrial will be submitted to the Supreme Court on his behalf.
Sina Darvish Omran, a graduate of the German Translation program at Tehran University, was arrested on December 9, 2017. He was tried in Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court under Judge Salavatian and was sentenced to eight years imprisonment, two years travel ban, deprivation of political activities, and prohibition from accessing cyberspace.
During the December 2017 protests in over one hundred Iranian cities, security officials arrested more than 100 student activists. Many of these students have been sentenced to prison following their trials.
