Workers at Haft Tappeh Sugar Cane Factory and National Steel of Khuzestan Hold Demonstrations

Reports indicate that groups of workers from various companies across Iran staged gatherings in protest against unpaid wages.

Based on news reports and images shared on social media, workers from Iran’s National Steel Industrial Group gathered in front of the Khuzestan Province Governor’s Office on Saturday, November 19, for the nth time in recent months.

These workers protested the non-payment of four months’ worth of wages and the lack of raw materials for production, announcing that various sections of the factory, including pipe manufacturing, are on the verge of shutdown due to the absence of raw materials.

Simultaneously, workers at Haft Tappeh Sugar Cane Factory went on strike in protest against three months of unpaid wages. The protesters believe that the private sector employer lacks the capacity to manage the factory and that the workers’ council could operate the Haft Tappeh complex better than the employer.

These two production units have witnessed numerous worker protests over the past year.

Ahvaz National Steel Factory was launched by Amir Mansour Aria Investment Group, but following allegations of financial corruption against Amir Mansour Aria and some of his partners, the factory’s management was handed over to the private sector under judicial supervision. However, ownership of the complex was transferred back to Bank Melli in April of this year.
