Dollar Price Rises Above 10,000 Tomans Again

Just days after Hassan Rouhani’s government announced new currency policies, on Thursday, the 18th of Mordad, the price of the US dollar in Iran’s unofficial market once again surpassed 10,000 tomans.
Unofficial reports from Iran’s free currency market indicate severe fluctuations, particularly in the dollar exchange rate.
The US dollar price reached approximately 10,600 tomans on Thursday and dropped to 10,500 tomans an hour later.
Hassan Rouhani’s government announced its new currency policies in the middle of this week aimed at combating rampant inflation in foreign currencies.
The main basis of these policies is the establishment of a secondary currency market.
Nevertheless, on Thursday, websites that record foreign currency prices in Iran’s unofficial market reported the re-emergence of five-digit US dollar prices in Tehran.
Accordingly, in the early afternoon hours of Thursday, the selling price of the dollar was 10,650 tomans and the euro was 12,300 tomans.
On Wednesday, the 17th of Mordad, the price of dollar and coins was lower than the previous day, but, according to ISNA reports, “as it approached noon, the price increase in the market became more visible, and ultimately the dollar reached 9,700 tomans, the euro reached 11,200, and the full Bahar Azadi coin reached 3 million and 450 thousand tomans.
Currently, the price of “Imami” coins is four million tomans.
Meanwhile, some websites and channels that track free market prices reported Wednesday evening that the US dollar even reached 10,000 tomans.
