Nazanin Zaghari Released on Furlough After 30 Months in Prison

Nazanin Zaghari Ratcliffe, a British-Iranian citizen who had been imprisoned since Nowruz of 1395 (2016), was released on a three-day furlough on Thursday, the 1st of Shahrivar.

Ms. Zaghari, who had traveled to Iran thirty months ago during Nowruz of 1395 to visit her family, was arrested by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps on security charges and was sentenced to five years in prison at trial.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps accused her of national security violations and training in journalism. However, Ms. Zaghari denied the charges, and the Reuters Foundation formally stated that Ms. Zaghari was a simple employee in the administrative section of the foundation.

On Wednesday, the husband of Nazanin Zaghari Ratcliffe, a British-Iranian citizen who was sentenced to five years in prison in Iran, announced that the British government has yet to take any action in granting diplomatic protection to Ms. Zaghari.

It has been stated that if diplomatic support is given to an individual, this matter is removed from a national issue and becomes a bilateral matter between two countries that can impact the relations between the two countries.
