Terrorist Attack in New York Leaves 8 Dead and 11 Wounded

An immigrant in Manhattan, New York attacked a bicycle path with a van. In this terrorist act, 8 people were killed and 11 were wounded. Politicians from various countries reacted to this incident.
On Tuesday afternoon (October 31 / November 9) around 3 p.m. local time, a man named Sayfullo Saipov, according to New York police, of Uzbek origin, drove a rental van into a bicycle path in Manhattan, New York, killing at least 8 people and wounding 11 others. Five of the deceased were Argentine tourists.
According to eyewitnesses, the attacker, after the van collided with a bus carrying students, got out and shouted “Allahu Akbar.”
According to statements from New York police officials, he was carrying an air gun and a paintball gun.
Police officers did not give the attacker a chance to escape; they wounded him and arrested him.
According to American media reports, 29-year-old Sayfullo Saipov immigrated to the United States from Uzbekistan in 2010 and is a resident of Florida.
Domestic and International Reactions
Donald Trump, President of the United States, in his first tweet in response to this incident wrote: “Another attack has been carried out by a deranged and sick person. The police are monitoring this incident. Not in America!”
In another message he wrote: “We must not allow ISIS to return, or to enter our country, after we have driven it out of the Middle East. Enough is enough.”
The U.S. President then offered condolences to the families of the victims and announced that he would make conditions for foreigners entering America more stringent.
Bill de Blasio, Mayor of New York, called this event “a terrorist and cowardly attack.” He stated: “This is a very painful day for our city, but the residents of New York will not be changed by a terrorist operation.”
António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, also said: “We think of all residents of our host city. Today we are all at the headquarters of the United Nations in New York.”
Theresa May, Prime Minister of Britain, Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London, Emmanuel Macron, President of France, and Mariano Rajoy, Prime Minister of Spain, were among the first to react to the New York attack and express solidarity and sympathy with the people of New York.
