Narges Mohammadi Transferred to Hospital Due to Severe Bleeding

According to a report by the Human Rights Defenders Center website, Narges Mohammadi was transferred from prison to a hospital following severe uterine bleeding.

According to the website, Ms. Mohammadi was transferred to the hospital on Sunday, June 7th, after her bleeding did not stop.

Narges Mohammadi suffers from two diseases: pulmonary embolism and muscular dystrophy. Physicians believe that Ms. Mohammadi’s continued imprisonment, given these two conditions, could endanger her life.

Narges Mohammadi, a human rights activist, was sentenced last month to five years in prison on charges of “assembly and conspiracy with intent to commit crimes against national security,” one year in prison on charges of “propaganda activities against the system,” and ten years in prison on charges of “forming and running an illegal group called Legam.”

The Judiciary announced that 10 years of this sentence will be executed.

The issuance and confirmation of this verdict in the appeals court prompted severe criticism from human rights activists and several members of parliament.

These representatives wrote letters to judicial officials twice to investigate the violation of this ruling and to review Ms. Mohammadi’s case again.

In the second letter, the representatives stated that the issued verdict does not match the proportionality of the charges: “It appears that the imposed punishment is more intended to intimidate other social and political activists, and of course, this purpose is usually not achieved.”

Nevertheless, the judicial system refused to review Narges Mohammadi’s case again.
