Identification of a deceased protester whose body was transported in a pickup truck

According to a report citing local sources, the slain protester, whose video of his body being transported in a pickup truck went viral on social media, has been identified as Mehran Shekari from Miandoab.

According to this report, Mehran Shekari was shot dead by security forces on November 3 in Karaj during a gathering held to mark the 40th anniversary of the killings of Hadith Najafi and Nima Rezadoust.

Mehran Shekari's grandfather was also killed in the Iran-Iraq War. Security agencies have demanded 200 million Tomans to return Mehran Shekari's body to his family.

According to published information, security forces have threatened Mr. Shekari's family that after paying this amount, their son's body will only be handed over to them on the condition that they refrain from holding any mourning ceremonies and bury him without ceremonies.

Pressure to pay heavy fines and bails, declaring the cause of death of protesters based on other incidents, threatening the lives of other family members, pressuring them to bury them quietly, and prohibiting mourning are examples of the harassment and torture of survivors of nationwide protests in Iran during the years following the 1979 revolution.

In recent days, a video was posted on social media showing a young man lying on the ground after being shot in the head. Minutes later, his body was removed from the scene by a pickup truck, and the release of this video was met with widespread reaction from social media users.

Some social media users have also written that Mehran Shekari lived and worked in Karaj.

Another point is that the Islamic Republic government is likely facing a budget shortage to suppress the protesters and intends to compensate for the losses through this (requesting money from the victims' families).
