Daily increase of more than two thousand cases of coronavirus in official Iranian statistics; reopening of shrines

Despite the daily increase of more than two thousand cases of coronavirus in Iran's official statistics, the Deputy Minister of Health has said that the policy of "maximum reopening" is on the agenda.

Iraj Harirchi has said that this policy is being implemented to "secure the economy and livelihoods" of the people.

In Qom and Mashhad, media outlets have also reported that the courtyards of religious sites have been reopened. IRNA News Agency has also published a video report of the "thanksgiving ceremony for the reopening of the shrine."

Based on the decision of the National Corona Headquarters, religious places across the country will resume their activities starting today, and high-risk guilds in Tehran are also scheduled to begin operating on June 26.

2,023 new cases identified and 34 deaths in the past 24 hours

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Health announced the identification of 2,023 new patients with coronavirus in the past 24 hours.

Kianoush Jahanpour, who announced the official coronavirus statistics in Iran on Sunday, June 25, said that the total number of identified patients is 137,724, and of these, 107,713 have recovered and been discharged from the hospital.

He also announced the death of 34 people and said that the total number of coronavirus victims in Iran has reached 7,451.

Mr. Jahanpour added that no deaths have been reported in 19 provinces in the past 24 hours.

According to the Ministry of Health spokesperson, 2,585 patients are in severe condition and are under intensive care.

The statistics announced by Kianoush Jahanpour the day before also indicated that 2,180 new patients with coronavirus had been identified that day, and similar statistics had been announced in the days before that.

The Ministry of Health's statistics on the coronavirus situation in Iran are being published at a time when some members of parliament and city council members have previously accused the Ministry of Health of concealing the number of deaths and infections from coronavirus.

The Parliamentary Research Center previously estimated in a report that the number of deaths was double and the number of infected people was 8 to 10 times higher than the Ministry of Health's figures.

The situation in Khuzestan is still red.

Mr. Jahanpour also said that the coronavirus situation in Khuzestan is still red, but the number of patients being hospitalized has decreased by 10 to 15 percent.

Hedayatollah Khademi, a representative from Izeh, also warned today, referring to the growing trend of the spread of the coronavirus in the southern provinces of Iran, that "if the situation continues like this, it will be difficult to control and combat the coronavirus in these provinces."

He has cited the lack of social distancing and concealment of the disease as important factors in the spread of coronavirus in the southern provinces of Iran.

In other news, Rahmdel Bamri, deputy governor of Sistan and Baluchestan, said that Chabahar city is in a red zone and that positive cases of coronavirus have "increased 15 times" compared to the first two months of this year.

He announced the imposition of strict restrictions on movement to control the spread of the disease and said: "Any gathering and crowding in markets and streets is prohibited."
