Houthi rebels launch missile and drone attacks on Saudi oil facilities

The Houthi missile and drone attacks on Saudi oil facilities are a new chapter in the tension arising from the six-year war in Yemen. In recent days, the Houthi rebels have launched several drone and missile attacks on Saudi Arabia.
The target of the missile and drone attack on the evening of Sunday, March 7th (March 17th) was one of Aramco's oil facilities as well as several Saudi military areas.
On Monday, March 8, Agence France-Presse published a report from Riyadh, reporting on a new missile and drone attack by Houthi rebels on Saudi Arabia.
The Houthi missile and drone attacks on Saudi territory reportedly came shortly after the Saudi-led military coalition bombed their positions in Sanaa, which is under the control of the Houthi rebels.
News agencies have reported an escalation of tensions and a widening military confrontation between the Saudi-led military coalition and the Houthi rebels, as the United States seeks to end the six-year war.
Statement from the Saudi Ministry of Defense
The Saudi Ministry of Defense announced that the Houthi drone attack targeted a large oil depot in Ras Tanura. In addition, a ballistic missile was also launched at Aramco's oil facilities in the eastern Saudi city of Dhahran.
The Saudi Ministry of Defense announced that the missile landed near the residence of Aramco workers and employees. Thousands of Aramco employees and their families are said to live in residential units next to the oil facility.
The same news source quoted Saudi officials as saying that the missile attack did not cause any casualties or material damage.
Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for the drone and missile attack on Ras Tanura in a Twitter post, claiming that they also attacked several military targets in the Dammam region, located near Dhahran.
On Sunday, Saudi state television reported the destruction of ten Houthi drones. Saudi Arabia believes that the removal of the Houthis from the list of terrorist organizations has contributed to the increase in their attacks.
The administration of US President Joe Biden removed the Houthi rebels from the list of terrorist organizations after taking office. Adding the organization to the list of terrorist organizations was one of the last actions of the Donald Trump administration before the end of his term.
