Two Christian converts from Sardasht city arrested

In recent days, Shirko Siavashi and Mehdi Ebrahimzadeh, Christian converts from Sardasht city, were arrested by security forces and taken to an unknown location.

The Human Rights Activists in Iran News Agency reported that on Saturday, September 2, 2020, a Christian convert was arrested by security forces at his home in Sardasht city and transferred to one of the detention centers of the IRGC Intelligence Department in the city.

The identity of this citizen, “Shirko Siavoshi, son of Mohammad, born in 1983, from Sardasht County,” has been verified by HRANA.

During the arrest, security officers searched the home and confiscated some of Mr. Siavoshi's personal belongings, including his laptop and hard drives, and took them away.

On the other hand, another Christian convert has been arrested in Fars province and transferred to an unknown location.

The identity of this citizen has been confirmed as "Mehdi Ebrahimzadeh, son of Ebrahim, born in 1983, from Sardasht County."

As of the time of writing this report, there is no precise information available about the charges brought against these citizens and their whereabouts.

It is worth noting that despite the fact that Christians are recognized as a religious minority by law, the security services follow the issue of Muslims converting to Christianity with particular sensitivity and deal with activists in this field with force.

The treatment of Christian converts in Iran is taking place despite the fact that, according to Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 18 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, everyone has the right to freedom of religion and to change their religion with conviction, as well as the freedom to manifest it, individually or in community with others and in public or private.
