Lack of hothouses in Kerman; homeless woman dies in lime kiln fire

This morning, Tuesday, January 20, a 45-year-old homeless woman in Kerman, who had been forced to take refuge in a lime kiln on the outskirts of the city due to the lack of a hothouse, lost her life in a fire.

According to HRANA news agency, citing Rokna, this morning, Tuesday, January 20, 2020, a 45-year-old woman died in a fire in the lime kilns of Kerman's industrial neighborhood.

Jahanshahi, public relations officer for the Kerman Fire Department, said in this regard: "Firefighters arrived at the scene three minutes after the fire department was called, but this is not the time the fire started. The fire certainly started earlier, and since the furnaces are a short distance from residential areas, it took a long time to call the fire department, and ultimately, there was no possibility of rescue due to the roof collapsing."

According to this report, for a long time, in the cold winter, homeless and socially disadvantaged people in Kerman city have been going to the outskirts of the city due to lack of shelter, including hothouses. One of these places is the lime kilns in the industrial neighborhood, where these people take refuge to use the heat next to the kilns.

The issue of relocating the lime kilns in the Kerman industrial district has been discussed for a long time. Various media outlets have addressed this issue many times. The authorities have also set a time and made a promise each time. In one of the most recent statements on January 6, the Deputy Justice of Kerman Province announced the relocation of the lime kilns and said: "The relocation of the lime kilns from the industrial district will take place from Saturday next week."
