Saqqez MP reports shooting of protesters with shotgun in their intestines over Mahsa Amini's death

Reports on social media indicate that following the burial of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old woman who died in Tehran's Moral Security Police detention center, protest rallies were held in Saqqez and Sanandaj on the day and night of Saturday, September 16.

Meanwhile, on Sunday morning, images were released of the beginning of protest rallies at Tehran University against the mandatory hijab and the death of Mahsa Amini, in which protesters chanted slogans such as "Women, Life, Freedom."

After the funeral of Mahsa (Zina) Amini, the Islamic Republic's security forces opened fire and fired tear gas to disperse protesters in the city of Saqqez.

Behzad Rahimi, a representative from Saqqez in the parliament, acknowledged the unrest at Mahsa Amini's funeral in an interview with the ILNA news agency on Sunday, saying, "No one was killed and we only had a few wounded on the street; of course, one person is hospitalized in Saqqez Hospital due to several bullets hitting his intestines."

He also acknowledged that the police and the hospital had "weak information, lack of accountability, lack of transparency, and delays" regarding Mahsa Amini's condition.

According to the human rights website Hengaw, at least 13 people were injured in Saqqez by security forces, with one of the injured being in critical condition. According to the report, at least seven citizens were arrested during Saturday's protests in Saqqez.

Meanwhile, images of people protesting on the streets of Sanandaj in protest of the death of Mahsa Amini were released, and images of clashes between law enforcement forces and citizens in Sanandaj's Quds Square have also been released.

In the images released from these protests, protesters can be heard chanting slogans such as "Killing for a headscarf, how long will you keep on digging for a headscarf," "Women, life, freedom," "Death to the dictator," and "Death to Khamenei."

The Hengaw website says that during the security forces' attack on a protest rally in Sanandaj, a number of people were "violently" arrested by security forces.

Government officials in Iran have not yet released statistics on the number of injured and arrested people in the protests in Saqqez and Sanandaj.

Civil activists say that “at least eight citizens of Sanandaj” have been injured by live ammunition and shotgun pellets. According to these reports, “a 14-year-old teenage girl is among the injured and has been transferred to Kowsar Hospital and has undergone surgery.”

Some reports indicate that dozens of people have been arrested in the city of Sanandaj.

Civil society activists say in posts on Twitter that those injured in the Sanandaj protests are not going to medical centers for fear of arrest.

Mahsa Amini, who had traveled to Tehran from Saqqez with her family to visit relatives, fell into a coma on September 12, hours after being arrested by Ershad patrol officers, and died in the hospital three days later.

The initial release of news of Mahsa Amini's brain death and then her death in the hospital has sparked widespread reactions on the streets and social media.

Political groups from different spectrums, political figures and sports figures, as well as some non-Iranian figures, have reacted to and condemned the death of Mahsa Amini.
