Christian citizen "Waqas Masih" was attacked by his Muslim colleague

"Waqas Masih," a 22-year-old Christian citizen, was attacked by his Muslim colleague on charges of insulting Islam.

According to a report by Worthy News, Waqas Masih, a 22-year-old Christian citizen from Pakistan who worked in a paper factory in the Sharqpur Sharif area of Punjab province, was the target of a violent attack by one of his Muslim colleagues on charges of insulting Islam and was taken to the hospital due to his injuries.

Waqas suffered deep injuries to his neck and arm and was rushed to Mayo Hospital, Lahore, where he underwent several specialized surgeries. His condition is reported to be improving, but his family remains concerned about the psychological and social damage caused by the incident.

The attack was caused by Waqas' physical contact with the Quran with unclean hands. An eyewitness who was present at the scene told reporters: "The young Christian fell to the ground after being beaten and a lot of blood was flowing from his neck."

Waqas' father, "Riyast Masih," has stated that a person named "Zohib Iftikhar" stabbed his son with a sharp blade, but has not yet responded to the accusation. Evidence also indicates that the argument between the two colleagues began on March 20 due to a work dispute.

Human rights activist Sardar Mushtaq Gill said of the incident: “The accused ultimately accused the Christian worker of tearing pages of the Quran, a charge that carries severe punishment under Pakistani law.” The Christian’s family issued a statement denying the accusation, calling it a personal vendetta and ulterior motives. Sardar Gill also warned of the rise in blasphemy cases, saying: “The international community must hold Pakistani authorities accountable for such cases. There is no justification for violating fundamental human rights.”

Pastor Imran Amanat, a leader of the Christian community in Pakistan, also said: "We must unite against any kind of religious bigotry. The only way to end this cycle of violence is through dialogue and interfaith cooperation."
