Nowruz Messages from the President and Secretary of State of the United States

The President and Secretary of State of the United States have issued Nowruz messages on the occasion of Nowruz and the New Year.

In his Nowruz message published on the White House website, US President Donald Trump expressed his congratulations on the arrival of the New Year and Nowruz, while expressing solidarity with the Iranians.

He says that Iranians "are spending the arrival of spring this year, like every other year in the past four decades, under the oppression of their corrupt and ruthless government."

In another part of his Nowruz message, Mr. Trump added that the Iranian people want to restore their "proud history, rich culture, and true place in the world." "They have the right to have an accountable government that honors and respects them."

The US President's Nowruz message continues by stating that the Iranian government does not adhere to these principles: "As a result, the daily lives of the Iranian people, unfortunately, run contrary to the true meaning of Nowruz, which in Persian means new day and embodies hope for a day when good will triumph over evil, joy over sorrow."

Donald Trump continued to express solidarity with the people of Iran and said the United States will continue to condemn Iran's "dictatorial regime."

At the end of his Nowruz message, Mr. Trump says he is "praying for the rebirth of freedom in Iran": "In the end, freedom and justice will triumph over oppression."

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has also issued a Nowruz message.

Mr. Pompeo's Twitter also posted a short video in which the Secretary of State reads his Nowruz message.

In his Nowruz message, Mike Pompeo says, "On behalf of the American people, I extend my warmest wishes to all those celebrating Nowruz, whether in the United States, in Iran, or around the world."

The US Secretary of State expressed hope that the New Year will be "full of renewal, health, and prosperity."

He then says, "Happy Nowruz" in Persian.
