12-Year-Old Boy Becomes World’s Youngest Chess Grandmaster

Abhimanyu Mishra, an American chess player, broke the record for the world’s youngest chess grandmaster at just 12 years and 4 months old.

The record was previously held by Sergey Karjakin, who achieved this title at the age of 12 years and 7 months in 2002.

Abhimanyu Mishra became the world’s youngest International Master of chess when he was 10 years and 9 months old.

Following his recent games in Budapest, Abhimanyu and his family are now working towards him achieving the title of elite grandmaster during his teenage years.

Abhimanyu learned chess when he was two and a half years old and became America’s youngest chess specialist at age seven.

He had been prevented from achieving his new title due to the coronavirus pandemic, but by traveling to Budapest, he was able to shine in the grandmaster chess competition.

He was able to reach a rating of 2600 in the Budapest competitions.

Abhimanyu wrote on Twitter: “Finally, I have checkmated my biggest opponent (the current pandemic) that stopped me for 14 months. I am grateful to everyone for their love and support. I am looking forward to the World Championship”.
