70-Year Heat Record Broken in Khuzestan; Abadan Reaches 52.2 Degrees

The director general of meteorology for Khuzestan Province announced that the temperature record for Khuzestan over the past 70 years has been broken, with the air temperature in Abadan reaching 52.2 degrees Celsius.
According to Mohammad Sabzehzari, this temperature was recorded in the afternoon of Monday, June 20th.
He stated that the highest temperature recorded in Khuzestan in the month of Khordad was in 1389 (2010), when it reached 52 degrees Celsius.
He said: Today’s temperature record for Khuzestan (52.2 degrees) is only 0.4 degrees lower than the 70-year record for Iran’s maximum absolute temperature in Khordad, which is 52.6 degrees Celsius.
The General Meteorology Office of Khuzestan Province had issued an orange alert regarding the increase in air temperature in the province, and based on this alert, government offices and institutions in Khuzestan were closed on Monday.
The deputy director of medical affairs at Jundi-Shapur University of Medical Sciences in Ahvaz also announced that medical centers were on standby following predictions of severe heat in Khuzestan Province.
