A Teachers’ Union Activist: Government’s Smart Education Measures Have Failed Students; Reopening Schools Will Be a Disaster

A member of the Teachers’ Union says that the Islamic Republic has so far failed in relation to smart education and the educational programs that began on the national media for students following the outbreak of coronavirus and school closures.

Ali Akbar Baghani, in an exclusive interview with Voice of America, referring to the lack of health facilities and non-standard educational tools in Iranian schools, says that if the Islamic Republic wants to reopen schools that have been closed due to the spread of coronavirus in provinces such as Tehran, Markazi, Razavi Khorasan, and Fars under current conditions, disaster is on the way, because Iranian schools have no health facilities whatsoever, and this government neither can nor wants to control schools and classrooms from a health perspective.

This member of the Teachers’ Union, regarding smart education and lessons being taught on Iran’s national media, said: “This is an instrumental education, and the government, which previously couldn’t even provide suitable desks and chairs for teachers and students, has also failed in instrumental education and training now because it cannot manage the smart system.”

Ali Akbar Baghani considered the Islamic Republic’s smart education for students more like a joke than a reality, and said: “A government like Iran’s government can in no way provide smart education to at least 13 million students without providing facilities such as smartphones and high-speed internet to teachers.”

The outbreak of coronavirus is increasing daily in Iran, and Iranian officials have so far been unable to take acceptable measures to prevent the spread of this virus. Based on available information, Islamic Republic officials, as of Monday, April 7, 2020, announced the total number of coronavirus patients at 60,500 and officially say that to date 3,739 people have died as a result of contracting this virus.

However, these statistics are being reported by Islamic Republic officials while a World Health Organization official has stated that the statistics announced by Iranian officials regarding coronavirus patients are only one-fifth of the actual number of cases.
