Ahvaz Becomes ‘Hottest City in the World’ with Temperature Exceeding 53 Degrees

The Washington Post reported on Thursday that the city of Ahvaz recorded the hottest day ever registered in Iran on Thursday, the eighth of Tir month, and the temperature in this city has likely reached the record for the hottest point on Earth previously recorded.

According to the report, Etienne Kapikian, a meteorological expert at the French agency “Méteo-France,” wrote on Twitter that the temperature in Ahvaz on Thursday afternoon reached 53.7 degrees Celsius (128.7 Fahrenheit).

He stated that this is the hottest day ever recorded in Iran and is the highest temperature registered in the month of June on the Asian continent.

The report adds that according to the “Weather Underground” website, the temperature in Ahvaz between 4:30 and 5 p.m. on Thursday reached 129.2 Fahrenheit.

The Washington Post states that if the temperature in Ahvaz reached 129.2 Fahrenheit, then Ahvaz would have reached the highest temperature ever recorded in the world.

 

According to the report, the temperature in Mitribah in Kuwait in July 2016 and in “Death Valley” in California in June 2013 had reached 129.2 degrees.

This is while Kourosh Bahadori, the head of the Khuzestan Meteorological Department, also said on Thursday: Yesterday (Wednesday, the seventh of Tir month) the temperature in Ahvaz reached 53 degrees Celsius and Ahvaz was the hottest city in the world. At least in recent weeks, we have not had a temperature of 53 degrees Celsius anywhere in the world.

According to ISNA, he also added: Yesterday, 14 cities in Khuzestan experienced temperatures of 51 and 52 degrees Celsius.

Ahvaz, with a population of more than one million people, is facing not only heat but also humidity.

Ahvaz is also facing the phenomenon of dust storms, which so far have caused repeated power outages in the city.
