Ali Khamenei: “The Country Has Done Well in the Initial Steps of Its Decision to Negotiate”

Ali Khamenei, addressing the three branches of government, said: “The country has done well in the initial steps of its decision to negotiate.”

Three days after the first round of negotiations between “Abbas Araghchi” and “Steve Witkoff,” representatives of Iran and the United States in Oman, Ali Khamenei met with senior leaders of the three branches of government on Tuesday, 26 Farvardin, corresponding to April 15. During this meeting, regarding negotiations on a nuclear program with the United States, while noting that we should avoid extreme optimism and pessimism, he said: “The mistake made in the JCPOA, where everything in the country was made conditional on the progress of negotiations, should not be repeated, because the country becomes conditional and everything, including investment, remains suspended until the outcome of the negotiations is determined.

The country’s activities for achieving objectives in all areas must continue with greater momentum and nothing should be tied to the results of the negotiations. Lifting sanctions is not in our hands, but neutralizing the sanctions is within our control, and for this purpose, there are many ways and appropriate domestic capacities available. If this goal is achieved, the country will be immune to sanctions.”

He also said regarding Iran-U.S. negotiations in Oman: “The country has done well in the initial steps of its decision to negotiate. After this, we must also proceed carefully, while our red lines and those of the other side are completely clear. Negotiations may or may not result in an outcome. We are neither very optimistic nor very pessimistic about these talks. Of course, we are very pessimistic about the other side, but we are optimistic about our own capabilities.”
