Amirabdollahian: Biden Administration Must Show ‘Good Faith’ Before Discussing Direct Negotiations

Iran’s Foreign Minister says nuclear negotiations in Vienna have “come close to a consensus point,” but “the manner of lifting sanctions and providing guarantees” is important.

Hosein Amirabdollahian said on Friday, Farvardin 5, in an interview with Lebanon’s Al-Mayadeen network that in recent weeks America has made considerable efforts to negotiate directly about remaining issues, and added: “If the Biden administration is serious, it must show its good faith before discussing direct negotiations.”

Meanwhile, White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said today, Friday, in reference to JCPOA revival negotiations, in an interview with the Farsi service of Voice of America, “There are still issues remaining and things that need to be done.” Sullivan added: We are still looking for a diplomatic solution that will impose restrictions on Iran’s nuclear program.

Continuation of Talks with Saudi Arabia

Iran’s Foreign Minister, while acknowledging that “relations with Saudi Arabia are not good,” claimed that the Islamic Republic is not responsible for this matter and said Tehran has announced its readiness for the fifth round of negotiations with Riyadh.

Hosein Amirabdollahian, stating that Iran’s relations with “many Arab countries” are friendly, said: “Saudi Arabia was the first country to sever its relations with Iran,” but “we have not severed our relations with this country.”

He rejected any connection between Yemen’s developments and Iran, calling such an assessment incorrect, and criticizing Egypt’s positions regarding Syria, said that Iran can build its relations with this country based on common ground.

In late Esfand 1400, Iran unilaterally and temporarily suspended talks with Saudi Arabia, several rounds of which had been held with the mediation of the Iraqi government.

Amirabdollahian also announced Friday morning at a meeting with a group of Lebanese political and cultural figures that the Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to assist Lebanon in the fields of medical services, medicine, medical equipment, and other essential needs of the country, and to provide the items needed by this country in the fields of technical and engineering services, industrial production, and energy.

Meanwhile, Israel says that the foreign ministers of the United States, United Arab Emirates, Morocco, and Bahrain will travel to Israel at the invitation of Israel’s Foreign Minister on Sunday and Monday of next week to attend a “historic meeting.”
