Amnesty International Condemns Issuance of Heavy Sentences for Labor and Civil Activists in Iran

Amnesty International on Monday issued a statement strongly condemning the issuance of heavy prison sentences for labor activists and civil activists in Iran.
This human rights organization deemed the issuance of these sentences as a sign of “shameful injustice” in Iran’s judicial system and called on Islamic Republic officials to immediately and unconditionally release these activists.
Branch 28 of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court, headed by Judge Moghisseh, recently sentenced Ismail Bakhshi, a labor activist and representative of protesting workers at the Haft Tappeh sugarcane complex, to 14 years in prison on security-related charges.
Sepideh Qolian, Sanaz Allahyari, Amirhossein Mohammadifar, Amir Amirgholi, and Asal Mohammadi, five civil activists and members of the online publication Gam, have each been sentenced to 18 years in prison, and Mohammad Khanefer, a labor activist, has been sentenced to six years in prison.
