An Earthquake of Magnitude 5.3 Shakes Marivan

The Earthquake Research Center of the University of Tehran announced that an earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale shook Marivan in Kurdistan Province on Tuesday afternoon, April 7.
According to the Iran News Agency (IRNA), the earthquake occurred at 7:42 and 23 seconds PM on Tuesday at a depth of 10 kilometers below the earth’s surface.
The earthquake took place 24 kilometers from Marivan, 27 kilometers from Chahnare, 28 kilometers from Bouin Sofla (a village in Baneh), and 98 kilometers from Sanandaj, and residents of the cities of Saghez, Baneh, and Divandarreh also felt it.
The Director General of Crisis Management of the Kurdistan Provincial Governor’s Office told this news agency that no reports of possible damage have been reported so far.
According to Mohammad Fallahi, relief teams of the Red Crescent and medical emergency services in these three counties are on standby.
Marivan is located 135 kilometers west of Sanandaj, the center of Kurdistan Province.
