A young Iranian refugee named “Bardia Gharibi” on the morning of Saturday, February 6, 2021, while residing in Sparta province, one of the southwestern regions of Turkey, after enduring considerable suffering and being subjected to various pressures related to Turkey’s refugee process, took his own life, thus ending his life.
Economic hardships, psychological pressures, severe depression, uncertainty in the refugee process, as well as social difficulties in dealing with Turkish society, are among the reasons cited as the cause of “Bardia Gharibi’s” suicide.
It is noteworthy that he had previously made three unsuccessful suicide attempts, and all documents and records related to the suicide and severe depression of Mr. Gharibi had been reported to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Ankara and the ASAM organization, but no developments occurred in his case status.
“Hassan (Bardia) Gharibi” was from Shiraz and was only 25 years old. He spent nearly four years waiting for an interview with the United Nations and Turkey’s immigration office to make progress in reviewing his refugee application request, and during this period he endured various pressures until finally on the morning of Saturday, February 6, 2021, in Sparta province and in voluntary exile, he ended his life.
