Canada Examines Audio File Attributed to Zarif Regarding ‘Ukrainian Plane Downing’

Canada’s CBC news network reported on Tuesday, February 10, that Canadian government and security agencies are reviewing an audio file that is said to belong to Iran’s foreign minister and in which he discusses the intentional downing of a Ukrainian aircraft.

According to the report, a voice that is said to be attributed to Mohammad Javad Zarif in this audio file states that there are “thousands of possibilities” in explaining how the Ukrainian passenger plane was downed, including that two or three “infiltrators” carried out this act, “a scenario that is not unlikely.”

Canada’s CBC news network added that the voice attributed to Mohammad Javad Zarif continued that the Iranian government and military will never allow the truth to be revealed.

The audio further states in Persian that the reason the truth is not being disclosed is that such an action would open “certain doors to the country’s defense system” which is “not in the country’s interest.”

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on the morning of January 8 shot down a Ukrainian passenger aircraft numbered flight PS752, which was ascending from Imam Khomeini Airport in Tehran, with the firing of at least two missiles, killing all 176 passengers and crew members on board.

After several days of cover-up, the Revolutionary Guard ultimately, under pressure from the international community, admitted that the aircraft was shot down by Guard missiles, but stated the cause was “human error.”

Canada’s CBC news network says it listened to the audio file and its contents were translated from Persian to English by three people.

Ralph Goodale, special adviser to Canada’s Prime Minister on the Flight 752 downing case, also said he is aware of the existence of this audio file.

Ralph Goodale added that this audio file contains sensitive information and commenting on the details of it in the media and public communication tools could endanger the lives of some individuals.

Among the deceased were dozens of foreign nationals from Canada, Afghanistan, Britain, and Ukraine, and Iran has not yet provided a comprehensive report on the reason for targeting this flight to the aforementioned countries.

On the anniversary of the downing of this aircraft, Hassan Rouhani, President of Iran, again promised that those responsible for this incident would “definitely” be tried in court.

Following the downing of the Ukrainian aircraft, many reports have been published regarding threats and pressure by the Revolutionary Guard on the families of Iranian victims to remain silent on this matter.

The families of the deceased say that over the past year, the Iranian government has attempted to “seize” the funeral and memorial ceremonies of the 176 victims of the Ukrainian aircraft.
