Christian Citizen “Narges Nasri” Sentenced to 16 Years Prison and Other Penalties

“Narges Nasri,” a Christian citizen, has been sentenced to 16 years imprisonment and other penalties by the Revolutionary Court.

Narges Nasri, along with two other Christian citizens, was arrested on November 2, 2024 (11 Aban) by Ministry of Intelligence officers for establishing a house church in Tehran and was transferred to the Ministry of Intelligence detention facility known as Ward 209 of Evin Prison. According to “Hrana,” one month after her arrest, on December 1, 2024 (11 Azar), she was released from Evin Prison by posting a bail of 2.5 billion tomans. Ms. Nasri, along with two other Christian citizens, was interrogated throughout their detention.

On March 9, 2025 (19 Esfand), the verdict issued by Judge “Iman Afshari,” head of Branch 26 of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court, was communicated to Narges Nasri. The ruling against Ms. Nasri on charges of “propaganda activity contrary to Islamic law due to connection with foreign entities through influential methods and extensive criminal activity (with one degree enhancement),” includes 10 years of punishment imprisonment, 15 years of social ban, payment of 330 million tomans in fines, and membership in opposition groups for 5 years imprisonment, and for propaganda activity against the system for one year imprisonment.

When she was arrested in November, she was in her first month of pregnancy and now, in her fourth month of pregnancy, she has been sentenced to additional penalties including prohibition from leaving the country, prohibition from residing in Tehran Province and neighboring provinces, and prohibition from joining organizations and social groups for a period of two years.

According to Hrana’s report and citing a source familiar with and close to Narges Nasri’s family, the one-year prison sentence issued against her on charges of propaganda against the system was based on her activities in cyberspace due to the publication of critical content regarding the country’s situation.
