Construction of Super-Maximum Security Prison in Amazon Rainforests for Radical Islamists

France announced plans to construct a super-maximum security prison in the Amazon rainforests for radical Islamists and drug traffickers.
The French government announced through a press release that it intends to establish a super-maximum security prison in the cross-border region of French Guiana to house radical Islamists and drug traffickers. The prison is planned to be built deep within the Amazon rainforests in the “Saint Laurent du Maroni” area.
The French government has faced intense pressure from public opinion in recent months to take measures to increase security and combat organized crime networks.
According to statements by “Gérald Darmanin,” France’s Interior Minister, this special prison is designed to house all levels of the drug supply chain and to detain radical Islamists. The facility will have a separate section for the most dangerous criminals. The decision to construct it came following a wave of violence and coordinated attacks by Islamist extremists against other inmates and prison staff, as well as incidents involving drug traffickers.
The prison is planned to be built with a budget of 400 million euros and will have the capacity to accommodate a maximum of 500 inmates. It is expected to become operational by 2028. The prison facilities will feature advanced security technologies, sophisticated surveillance systems, and isolated structures to minimize the possibility of escapes or communication with external networks.
The Interior Minister, while emphasizing that one of the objectives of building this prison is to eliminate the leaders of drug trafficking networks within French territory, stated: “The geographical distance will ensure that they can no longer maintain contact with their networks.”
