Continued Detention of ‘Nasim Golami Simiyari’ in Evin Prison

The detention of “Nasim Golami Simiyari” continues in an indefinite status despite more than 390 days having passed since her arrest.

Nasim Golami, born in 1367, was arrested on 28 Ordibehesht 1402 by IRGC intelligence officers in Tehran. Following her arrest, she was transferred to Ward 1A of the IRGC where she was interrogated in solitary confinement and after two months was moved to Ward 2A, ultimately being transferred on 4 Mehr 1402 to the women’s ward of Evin Prison.

Ms. Golami, five months after her arrest, was informed of charges by prosecutor “Naser Jalaierssartaqui” at Evin Court regarding accusations of assembly and conspiracy, propaganda against the regime, and rebellion. During her detention, she was subjected to physical and psychological torture. Additionally, while in detention, she was forced to make confessions in front of cameras. Confessions that were written by dictation and made under interrogator coercion.

An informed source close to Nasim Golami, a political detainee, stated: “Ms. Golami, after 392 days from the time of her arrest, has been informed of charges three times at Evin Court regarding the allegations against her, however, to date no court hearing to examine her charges has been held and she continues to remain indefinitely in the women’s ward of Evin Prison.”

In protest of her indefinite detention status, she began a hunger strike in November of last year, consuming only water, sugar, and salt. She also wrote a letter explaining the reasons for her hunger strike and announced that until her indefinite detention status ends, she would continue her hunger strike.

In the aforementioned letter, she stated her demands for ending the hunger strike as: “ending the unknown temporary detention, legal review of the charges in a competent court or converting the temporary detention order to bail and release until trial.”

Many prisoners with situations similar to Nasim Golami have been forced to resort to hunger strikes, using it as a last resort to achieve their demands, a situation that severely endangers their lives.
