Contradictory Statements About Entry of Contaminated Corn into Iran; This Shipment Entered at Exchange Rate of 4,200 Tomans per Dollar

While the vice chairman of the Article 90 Commission of Parliament had reported in a television program about the presence of 140,000 tons of contaminated corn in warehouses in Khuzestan Province, the chairman of the Article 90 Commission of Parliament has denied this matter.

Amir Khojasteh, vice chairman of the Article 90 Commission of Parliament, had stated in a television program that a total of 500,000 tons of corn existed in Khuzestan Province, of which 350,000 tons whose standards were approved by the Ministry of Health and the National Standards Organization entered the country, but 140,000 tons of this shipment are contaminated with “aflatoxin” toxin according to tests conducted and are still being stored in warehouses.

He said that these products were imported by the private sector “at an exchange rate of 4,200 tomans.”

However, Davoud Mohammadi, chairman of the Article 90 Commission of Parliament, said in this regard that these corns did not enter the country and the people “should rest assured.”

The ISNA news agency reported that in 2016, approximately 120,000 tons of corn entered Imam Port, and through multiple tests conducted by the National Standards Organization, the presence of high aflatoxin toxin in this shipment was proven and a compliance certificate was not issued for this shipment.

On the other hand, despite the fact that the National Standards Organization has announced the approval of the health of all 350,000 tons of corn imported into Iran, some unofficial reports indicate that the corn imported into the country is contaminated.

In recent days, news about the entry of contaminated corn into Iran has been published on social networks and the public was warned not to use products made with corn.

The United States has repeatedly condemned institutionalized financial corruption and plundering of Iran’s God-given assets by officials affiliated with the regime ruling this country and considered them among the main causes of Iran’s economic and financial problems. For instance, recently Mike Pompeo, the U.S. Secretary of State, tweeted about Islamic Republic officials saying that instead of helping the people, they became involved in corruption.
