Coronavirus in Iran: Critical situation in Khuzestan, concerns expressed in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, Bushehr and Fars

Following the outbreak of a mutated coronavirus and the fourth wave of this virus over the past month, the situation in southern regions, particularly Khuzestan province, continues to be reported as critical.

Despite the implementation of new protocols and the announcement of quarantine measures in these areas, the number of COVID-19 cases and deaths in Bushehr, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, and Fars provinces are on the rise.

Official statistics in Iran indicate 99 deaths and 8,313 new coronavirus cases. As a result, the total number of confirmed cases in Iran has reached one million, 698 thousand and five people, and according to official statistics, 60 thousand and 786 people have lost their lives due to coronavirus.

Domestic institutions in Iran have doubts about the official figures and believe the actual numbers are several times higher.

Nevertheless, Hamid Souri, a member of the scientific committee of the National Coronavirus Taskforce, while questioning the reliability of rapid coronavirus tests in public places in Iran, considered their negative results and in many cases inaccurate results as one of the main reasons for the spread of coronavirus in the country.

The Medical Association previously warned about the consequences of buying and selling negative coronavirus tests in laboratories at prices ranging from two to five million tomans.
