Coronavirus Worldwide: Over Seven Million Cases and 400,000 Deaths

The United States, Brazil, Russia, and Britain have the highest number of coronavirus cases in the world. India reached fifth place in two weeks. Spain, Italy, Peru, France, Germany, and Iran are ranked sixth through eleventh, respectively.
According to the latest statistics from Johns Hopkins University, the United States ranks first among countries worldwide with 1 million 942 thousand cases and nearly 110,514 deaths from COVID-19.
Brazil, which has become one of the new epicenters of coronavirus, on Monday, June 8, according to the latest report from Johns Hopkins University, with 691 thousand cases, secured second place on the list of the top 10 coronavirus-affected countries in the world. The number of cases in this country has only doubled within two weeks.
Experts believe that the actual number of cases in Brazil could be several times higher than the official reported figures.
The Brazilian government has taken an unusual approach to deal with the coronavirus crisis and has suspended the publication of daily statistics on cases and deaths.
Russia ranks third with 467 thousand cases, but this country ranks 12th in terms of deaths. In Russia, 5,851 people have died from COVID-19.
The number of coronavirus cases in Britain has exceeded 287 thousand, but this country with 40 thousand deaths has maintained second place in the world after the United States. In just two weeks, four thousand more deaths have been added to Britain’s death toll.
Easing Restrictions in Spain and Continued Deaths
While Spain has eased restrictions imposed to combat the new coronavirus, approximately four thousand people have died from COVID-19 in this country over the past two weeks.
Spain ranks sixth among coronavirus-affected countries in terms of both cases and deaths.
Exponential Growth of Coronavirus Spread in India and Peru
Data from Johns Hopkins University in America, which reports the rate of coronavirus infection and death statistics in 180 countries worldwide, indicates that the situation in countries ranked fifth through tenth in coronavirus infection has changed over the past few days.
India, which two weeks ago was ranked eleventh among coronavirus-affected countries and even had fewer cases than Iran, is now experiencing a doubling of COVID-19 patients within two weeks.
With 257 thousand people infected with coronavirus, India now ranks fifth among coronavirus-affected countries, but the death toll in this country has been reported as seven thousand. According to Johns Hopkins University data, the death toll in India has also doubled over the past two weeks.
Peru is another country that has made the list of the top 10 coronavirus-affected countries, ranking eighth with 196 thousand cases. Two weeks ago, Peru ranked twelfth in the table of coronavirus patients.
Coronavirus in Iran: 171 Thousand Cases and 8,281 Deaths
According to data from the “Worldometer” website, Iran ranks tenth. However, according to Johns Hopkins University statistics, Iran ranks eleventh on the list of coronavirus-infected countries, but is among the top 10 countries in terms of deaths.
The total number of coronavirus cases in Iran has exceeded 171 thousand, and deaths have reached 8,281.
According to Johns Hopkins University and the World Health Organization data among 180 countries in the world, Lesotho has the least number of COVID-19 cases with four patients. This country has a population of 1 million 800 thousand and is located in southern Africa.
