Four Iranians Killed in ISIS Suicide Attack in Kirkuk, Iraq

Iranian news agencies, citing officials from the country’s Foreign Ministry, have confirmed that at least four Iranian technicians were killed in an ISIS suicide attack in the Iraqi city of Kirkuk.

According to Reuters, attacks were carried out on the city of Kirkuk on the morning of Friday, October 30. One of the operations targeted the Dibis power plant located 40 kilometers northwest of Kirkuk. This facility housed workshops related to power plant construction where Iranian contractors were working.

Initially, Iran’s ambassador to Iraq announced that three Iranian technicians working on a power plant project in Kirkuk city “were martyred as a result of a terrorist attack.” An hour later, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman confirmed the death of a fourth person and announced that three Iranians were also wounded in the incident.

The ISIS suicide attack on the power plant in Kirkuk is one of dozens of operations carried out over the past five days, coinciding with the Iraqi army’s operations to liberate the city of Mosul, the group’s stronghold in Iraq.

In this suicide attack, in addition to the four Iranians, nine other people were killed.

On Friday, in addition to the power plant, similar suicide attacks were carried out on a government center, a police office, and another section of Kirkuk city.

Although gunfire was heard for some time after these attacks, according to the Associated Press, one of the police commanders announced that the situation in Kirkuk city is under control.
