Gatherings of Defrauded Clients of Financial Credit Institutions in Several Iranian Cities

Some reports indicate that defrauded clients of financial credit institutions in some parts of Iran have once again held gatherings.

Based on images and news published on social media, on Monday, April 7, defrauded clients of Armane Vahdat financial institution gathered in front of the Islamic Consultative Assembly building.

The protesters chanted slogans against the Central Bank governor and demanded action against officials responsible for the loss of their deposits. They also chanted: “Law enforcement, listen up, we are defrauded, not ruffians.”

Images and news published on social media also show that defrauded clients of Armane Vahdat financial institution also gathered in Dezful.

In another event, depositors of the Caspian financial credit institution also gathered on Sunday in Mashhad in front of one of the institution’s branches.

Some reports indicate that law enforcement intervened to disperse the protesters in Mashhad. Defrauded clients of the Caspian institution in Mashhad had also held a protest gathering the previous week.

On Saturday, some defrauded clients of credit institutions, including Afsol Tous Cooperative, held a protest gathering in front of one of the bank’s branches, demanding the return of their deposits.

During this gathering, protesters threw eggs at the entrance of a Future Bank branch on Bukharest Street. Law enforcement was also present at the gathering site.

Afsol Tous Cooperative, following the monetary and credit council’s decision to dissolve it, has had the settlement of deposits and resolution of customer accounts delegated to Future Bank.

Protests against several financial institutions for failing to return people’s deposits have continued over the past year.

Several financial institutions in recent years, with promises of high returns, attracted citizens’ savings but subsequently proved unable to pay interest or even return the principal. These institutions faced judicial and central bank action, but the resolution of their accounts has been prolonged.

Despite government officials announcing that repayment of deposits from these institutions is being carried out gradually, depositors in multiple protest gatherings have stated that they have not received their money.

On the other hand, Islamic Republic officials have not provided clear explanations regarding how these institutions were formed and who established them.
