Head of Iran’s Nursing Organization: Shortage of Protective Equipment in Northern Hospitals is Concerning

Mohammad Mirzabaigi, head of Iran’s Nursing Organization, told the state news agency IRNA on March 10 that the shortage of protective equipment for nurses, such as masks and gloves, in northern provinces is concerning.
Mr. Mirzabaigi said on Monday that “the shortage of protective equipment against coronavirus, such as masks, gloves, gowns and face shields, continues in some medical centers, and nurses and medical staff at these centers are working under great difficulties to provide care and treatment to patients.”
He also asked citizens to first and foremost allow protective equipment to reach emergency responders, as they need these supplies more.
The head of Iran’s Nursing Organization also criticized the “hoarding” of supplies and asked the Ministry of Health to “have greater oversight over the distribution of these available items.”
Concerns about the situation and spread of coronavirus in northern Iran have been expressed for some time not only by citizens, doctors and nurses, but also by some officials of the Islamic Republic.
On Sunday, Mohammad Hossein Ghorbani, the health minister’s authorized representative in Gilan, said in a meeting in Rasht that the death toll from coronavirus in Gilan is “about 200 people.”
Coinciding with the death of another doctor in Rasht, the number of doctors and nurses who have died from coronavirus has increased to at least 12.
While the data collected by Radio Farda from statements by local officials and parliamentary representatives indicates the death of at least 477 people in 27 provinces.
