Health Condition of Christian Detainee Mina Khajavi Dangerous in Evin Prison

The health condition of Mina Khajavi, a Christian citizen detained in Evin Prison, has become dangerous and a cause for concern.

According to an informed source close to her family, Mina Khajavi, a Christian citizen detained in Evin Prison who suffers from physical ailments, has been deprived of specialized medical care. According to this person’s statement, Ms. Khajavi suffers from back and knee pain to such an extent that she can barely walk.

Mina Khajavi was sentenced to 6 years in prison in June 2022 due to peaceful religious activities and on charges of “managing illegal groups with the aim of undermining national security.” In December 2023, she received a text message from judicial authorities, forcing her to report to the prosecutor’s office within 5 days to serve her sentence. The order was issued while she was undergoing treatment for injuries from a car accident, but she was forced to stop her treatment.

Ms. Khajavi has serious difficulties walking and also suffers from arthritis. Considering that she needs to undergo a three-month treatment course, which has even been confirmed by a physician trusted by the judiciary, she is forced to remain in prison. It should be noted that several Christian citizens who had cases similar to Ms. Khajavi had their sentences reduced in retrial or were even released, but her retrial request has been rejected.

The continued detention of this Christian citizen in prison continues despite the fact that she still needs to undergo her treatment course, but specialized medical care is not possible for her. Additionally, the medical situation in Iranian prisons has repeatedly been criticized by human rights organizations and the United Nations.

Many of them have even been deprived of medical care in prison, and in some cases have lost their lives due to lack of medical treatment. The Islamic Republic government uses depriving prisoners of medical facilities, which is a prisoner’s fundamental right, as a tool to pressure them.
