Honor-based murder: Young woman set on fire by her father

A surgeon, by posting on his personal page, reported that a young woman was set on fire by her father on suspicion of having a boyfriend. The 22-year-old girl, with 85% of her body burned, lost her life hours ago despite the efforts of medical staff. However, according to this doctor, the girl’s father is free. Iranian law contains provisions that exempt those who commit “honor killings” from severe punishment.
According to Hrana news agency, the news organ of the Iranian human rights activists network, today, Sunday, September 2, 2021, a surgeon reported the death of a young woman following being set on fire by her father.
Iman Nabavi, a surgeon, by posting on his personal page, announced this news and stated the reason for setting fire to this 22-year-old girl by her father as “having a boyfriend” and reported that the father is free. According to him, the young woman, after enduring severe pain that only in the initial surgery included removal of all burned areas and amputation of both hands, lost her life.
The victim’s identity, the city where the incident occurred, and more details of this event are being investigated by Hrana.
It should be noted that according to Islamic Penal Law, a father who kills his child, if convicted in court, is sentenced to payment of diyah (blood money) and imprisonment. In some cases, fathers, after reviewing the fact that a father is not executed for killing his child, have committed murder.
On the other hand, Iranian law contains provisions to exempt those who commit “honor killings” from severe punishment.
