Human Rights Sources: Prisoner Killed in Sanandaj Prison Following “Beating by Prison Guards”

Human rights sources reported the death of a prisoner in Sanandaj Prison as a result of “beating by prison guards.”
The website “Hrana” identified the prisoner as “Khosrow Jamalifar,” who according to the site was “accused of murder and awaiting sentencing.”
The website reported that “a blow to the head of the prisoner by prison guards, negligence by the prison nurse, and failure to transport him to the hospital in a timely manner” were contributing factors to his death.
The website “Hengaw” also reported, citing an “informed source,” that the body of Khosrow Jamalifar was transferred from Sanandaj Central Prison to Tawhid Prison by security personnel, and they claimed he had committed suicide by taking pills.
According to the report, “after the prisoner’s stomach was pumped, no evidence of suicide by taking pills was found.”
Hengaw reported, citing one of Jamalifar’s brothers, that “security forces did not allow any family members to see the body, and this morning the body was buried in a completely secure environment.”
A family member of Jamalifar also stated that “Khosrow was arrested three years ago on charges of killing two citizens, and we were in the process of obtaining consent from those two families.”
In recent years, several prisoners have lost their lives in prison.
According to Islamic Republic laws, the responsibility for prisoners’ health lies with the judicial system and the prison organization. However, officials of these institutions, along with security agencies, evade any accountability and responsibility through cover-ups, distortion of narratives, and pressure on families of prisoners and the deceased.
