Ibrahim Raisi’s Implicit Support for Russia’s Attack on Ukraine in Phone Call with Putin

The Islamic Republic of Iran’s president, in a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, implicitly supported Russia’s attack on Ukraine and said: “We hope that what is happening will be in the interest of nations and the region.”
Ibrahim Raisi, in a phone call on Thursday, the fifth of Esfand, told Putin that “NATO’s expansion toward the east is tension-creating” and claimed that “NATO’s expansion is a serious threat to the stability and security of independent countries in various regions.”
According to the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) news agency report, Vladimir Putin in this call claimed that the attack on Ukraine is “a legitimate response to decades of violations of security treaties and the West’s efforts to harm” Russia’s security.
In recent days, Iran has held the United States and NATO responsible for the current situation in Ukraine. The positions taken by Iranian officials in support of Russia’s claims have faced widespread negative reactions on social media networks.
