Imam Khomeini Hospital Staff in Karaj Hold Protest Gathering for Fifth Consecutive Day

Staff at Imam Khomeini Hospital in Karaj held a protest gathering for the fifth consecutive day in response to unpaid wages and negligence by the hospital’s management.

According to reports, personnel at this hospital, who also gathered on Wednesday, October 11, have not received their salaries for over eleven months.

According to ISNA, Ghadir Mahdavi Klishmi, a member of Karaj City Council who visited the hospital, stated in a council session: “Personnel who, due to economic pressures from not receiving their salaries for several months, have even resorted to selling a kidney, and who have been unable to pay house rent or their children’s university tuition for several consecutive months, have lodged serious complaints.”

A member of the hospital’s labor council also told ISNA that five hundred employees have overdue wages, and the authorities of Alborz Province have made no effort to resolve their problems, which is why these protest gatherings continue to be held.

Trade union gatherings in protest of livelihood problems and unpaid wages have increased in recent years following the escalation of economic difficulties in Iran.

Over the past year, teachers, nurses, retirees, truck drivers, and employees of major companies including Khuzestan Steel, Railway Facilities, Haft Tappeh Sugarcane Company, and several other professions have repeatedly held gatherings demanding improvement in their living conditions.
