Iran’s COVID-19 Death Toll Surpasses 100,000

In the past 24 hours, 564 new COVID-19 deaths have been recorded in Iran. The total number of COVID-19 deaths in Iran has now exceeded the 100,000 mark. According to statistics from Johns Hopkins University, Iran is considered the fourth most affected country in the world.

The Public Relations and Information Center of the Ministry of Health of the Islamic Republic announced on Thursday, August 28 (August 19) that 564 COVID-19 patients died in the past 24 hours. With this count, the total number of COVID-19 deaths has crossed the 100,000 threshold.

The Ministry of Health also announced that the total number of vaccine doses administered in the country has now reached 21 million, 490 thousand, and 705 doses. This figure includes the administration of the first and second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

This comes as more than 4 billion and 840 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered worldwide.

Public vaccination in Iran is progressing slowly, an issue that has caused concern for the leaders of the Islamic Republic.

Ali Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic, said in a televised message on Wednesday, August 20 (August 11): “The death of more than 500 people in one day and the bereavement of their families, the infection of tens of thousands of people with the disease and their medical problems are truly very painful.”

Khamenei called for widespread vaccine supply by any possible means, while seven months ago in a televised speech he had banned the import of American and British vaccines.

By banning the import of American and British vaccines through Khamenei, the supply of COVID-19 vaccine for Iranian citizens faced problems. According to a report from Johns Hopkins University, Iran is the fourth most affected country in the world after the United States, India, and Brazil.

In the past 24 hours, 31,266 new COVID-19 cases have been identified in Iran, of which 4,603 people were hospitalized.

Seven thousand and 538 COVID-19 patients are under care in special care units of hospitals.

With the addition of new patients, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Iran has reached 4 million, 587 thousand, and 683 people.

Currently, 359 cities in the country are in red condition, 59 cities in orange condition, and 30 cities are also in yellow condition.
