Issa Sharifi, Qalibaf’s Deputy at Tehran Municipality, Sentenced to 20 Years Imprisonment

A verdict issued by the military court for four defendants in the Yas Holding Company case was confirmed by the Supreme Court of Iran. Issa Sharifi, the second defendant in this case, was sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment and ordered to repay the amounts he had received.
The Supreme Court of Iran upheld the 20-year prison sentence for Issa Sharifi that was issued by the military court. According to this ruling, the former deputy of Tehran’s municipality during Qalibaf’s tenure must also return the funds he had received.
Issa Sharifi served as the deputy of Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf for 12 years during his tenure as Tehran’s mayor. Prior to this position, Sharifi was one of the commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, and his corruption case was ordered to be investigated by Khamenei in 2018.
Mohsen Hashemi, chairman of Tehran City Council, announced in June 2018 that by the order of Ali Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Hussein Bagheri, the commander-in-chief of Iran’s armed forces, would be responsible for investigating Issa Sharifi’s case regarding alleged “financial corruption of ten thousand billion tomans.”
Issa Sharifi was arrested in September 2017. His corruption case was related to the Yas Financial Holding Company, which was a subsidiary of the Cooperative Foundation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps. The “Rasa Trade” company was also a subsidiary of this holding. After numerous corruption cases were revealed, the Yas Holding was dissolved.
In a ruling confirmed by the Supreme Court on Wednesday, March 18, four defendants in the Yas economic group case were sentenced to 2 to 30 years of imprisonment on charges of participating in organized fraud, participating in money laundering, and illegal seizure and appropriation of funds.
