Joint Statement by US and Gulf Cooperation Council on Iran’s Nuclear and Missile Activities

The United States and the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council have accused the Islamic Republic of destabilizing the region with its nuclear, missile, and drone programs. They called on Iran to use the Vienna talks to reduce tensions.
Following a joint meeting between US representatives and the working group of the Gulf Cooperation Council on Iran, these countries released a joint statement on Wednesday (November 17) calling on the Islamic Republic to seize the opportunity to resume JCPOA talks and prevent the outbreak of “conflict and crisis.”
The meeting was held in Saudi Arabia with representatives from the United States, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, and Kuwait present. The joint statement said: “Iran has taken steps that have no non-military application but are important for a military nuclear program.”
The statement also called on Iran to use the opportunity created by the resumption of talks on the restoration of the JCPOA to reduce tensions in the region. The talks on reviving the JCPOA will begin on December 29 in Vienna following a long pause, with the United States participating indirectly.
According to ISNA news agency, citing Al-Mayadeen, the US and the Gulf Cooperation Council emphasized in their joint statement that “Iran has a better alternative to continued escalation of tensions and can help create a safer region.”
