Kazeron Residents’ Protest Rally Turns Violent Following Police Intervention

The people of Kazeron held a protest rally for the second consecutive day in opposition to a plan to divide the city and separate two districts.
The rally, which took place on Tuesday, Farvardin 28, escalated into violence following police intervention.
Protesters are opposing a plan that would separate the Qaemiyeh and Kohmere Nowdan districts from the city and transform them into Kuh Chenar city in the provincial divisions.
The plan is being pursued by Hossein Razazadeh, Kazeron’s representative, who is reportedly from one of the areas targeted by the separation plan.
Kazeron residents, who gathered in front of the city’s governor’s office on Wednesday, believe that the separation plan would destroy the city’s identity.
The rally subsequently turned violent after police intervened, and images of clashes between police and residents were shared on social media.
Local officials and some Interior Ministry officials have promised to consider the protesters’ views in implementing the plan, but protesters have announced they will continue their demonstrations in the coming days.
The protests over the past two days against the Kazeron division plan involved various business sectors of the city and resulted in market closures.
The Kazeron division plan has been approved by the provincial divisions office and is currently awaiting final approval by the cabinet.
