Leila Saremi in Limbo at Borujerdi Prison

“Leila Saremi,” mother of Farzad Moazzami Godarzi, a political prisoner, remains in legal limbo after ten days of detention.

Leila Saremi, mother of political prisoner Farzad Moazzami Godarzi who is held in “Greater Tehran Prison,” was arrested on Tuesday, July 22 by at least 17 security agents who raided the family’s residence. Security personnel arrived in five Peugeot vehicles at the Moazzami family home and, without presenting any court order, violently entered the house and arrested Leila Saremi and her husband Ahmad Moazzami Godarzi after beating them.

After the arrest, security agents searched their house and subsequently confiscated all electronic and communication devices belonging to the family. Neighbors confirmed that the agents behaved in a disrespectful and humiliating manner toward family members and created an atmosphere of fear and terror in the neighborhood.

Ahmad Moazzami, Farzad’s father, was released after a few days, but Leila Saremi was transferred to “Tirceh Block” prison in Borujerdi and placed in solitary confinement. She has been denied the right to contact her family and access to a lawyer.

Although ten days have passed since Ms. Saremi’s arrest, no information has been released regarding the reasons for her detention or the charges against her.

Prisoners from the aforementioned prison confirmed that Leila Saremi has been seen in poor physical and mental condition in solitary confinement and has been subjected to intensive interrogations. According to prisoners’ statements, this action constitutes a form of psychological pressure and white torture, aimed at intimidating and pressuring her son Farzad Moazzami Godarzi.

It should be noted that “Reza Moazzami Godarzi,” born on December 21, 1999, another son of this family, was killed by a bullet wound during the nationwide protests on November 16, 2019 in Shahriyar. His body was transferred to Borujerdi and buried there.

For years, the Islamic Republic regime has detained families of political activists and religious minorities including Christians, Jews, Baha’is, and Yarsanis without any evidence or documentation, subjecting them to harassment, persecution, threats, and torture. In many cases, the regime imprisons them on baseless charges and subsequently sentences them to severe penalties.
